BUILDING INTELLIGENCE

COURSE ADVANCED STUDIO IV [CBIP]

CRITIC DAVID BENJAMIN

COLLABORATORS JOSEPH BRENNAN, DEMITRA KONSTANTINIDIS + KIM NGUYEN

AS PART OF THE THREE-YEAR EXPERIMENTAL COLUMBIA BUILDING INTELLIGENCE PROJECT, THIS STUDIO FOCUSED ON THE FUTURE OF ARCHITECTURE AS A METRICS BASED, AND COLLABORATIVE ENDEAVOR. INSPIRED BY THE OBJECTIVES OF PlaNYC, WE DEVELOPED AN ADAPTIVE STRATEGY THAT COULD BE DEPLOYED ACROSS EXISTING NYC BUILDING STOCK NOT ONLY AS A MEANS OF INCREASING ENERGY EFFICIENCY, BUT AS A CHALLENGE TO THE STATUS QUO OF URBAN QUALITY OF LIFE. DESIGN WAS DRIVEN BOTH BY METRICS - THE OUTPUT OF DYNAMIC CATIA MODELING - AND BY A SERIES OF POLICY INITIATIVES TO CREATE A NEW URBAN LANDSCAPE.
